2/6/24 – This is a very rare, original Winchester Model 97 Trench shotgun from 1943. Barrel marked ’44’ on the underside. The wood is in good shape with no cracks, but does have several dings and small chips. Proper G.H.D. inspector marking with crossed cannons cartouche on stock. Receiver is marked U.S. and has flaming bomb. The action works perfectly. Nice, original bluing throughout. There are various scratches on the receiver, and a minor patch of freckling. Other correct characteristics for a model 97 include the bayo lug sitting back from the muzzle, 20in barrel with ‘cyl’ marking, two sets of holes on mag tube, receiver is martially marked, proper serial range, stock inletted for sling swivel. Correct 4-row heat shield that is riveted to bayo adaptor. Unmarked action bar has some dings on it. Original buttplate is badly chipped at the bottom.
