6/2/23 – This is a very rare and desirable Springfield M1C Garand Sniper rifle set from 1944. These two rifles are consecutively numbered, and come with the CMP paperwork verifying they are both originally M1C productions. While phased out of production in favor of the M1D, which could be produced in-house by Springfield using finished and surplus M1 rifles, the M1C saw sniper duty through Korea and into Vietnam. There were fewer than 8,000 M1Cs completed for WW2, and a total receiver production of less than 13,000, so a consecutive set is very hard to find. Both rifles feature original M84 scopes with numbered but mismatched mounts. Developed in 1944, the M1C was the first production-level sniper variant of the M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle. While highly effective as a sniper weapon, the manufacturing process was rather involved, requiring a Springfield receiver to be selected off the production line before heat treating, shipped to Griffin & Howe for base installation, and then returned to the Armory to complete the process. Rifle serial 3306808 features a proper Springfield stock with GAW inspectors mark and crossed cannons cartouche. It has a 1943 SA barrel with excellent bore and a TE of 1. The M84 scope has a clear reticle but there are some flecks/debris in the sight field. Also features a pronged flash hider, and lock bar rear sight. Serial 3306809 also features a proper Springfield stock with GAW inspectors mark and crossed cannons cartouche, but was sanded at some point. It has a 1944 SA barrel with a TE of 2. Excellent bore with minor frost. The M84 scope has clear optics.
