4/14/23 – This is a rare pair of 1942 Carl Zeiss Binoculars issued to the US Navy for use during WW2. In 1942 the US military didn’t have enough binoculars to meet the need of their rapidly growing forces. US manufacturing was escalating production, but wouldn’t meet demand for another year or more. So the US Government asked for civilians to loan their binoculars for the war effort. The “loaned” binoculars were inspected, and if found suitable would be issued for naval use. An added name and serial number was then added to the binoculars for identification purposes. It’s an interesting piece of US history, and an ironic story for how the US Navy ended up with German-made Carl Zeiss binoculars during WW2. This example is in excellent overall condition with some mild edge wear and aging. No major issues and fully functional adjustment knobs. Clear, crisp optics. 6×30 magnification. Note that the posters shown in the last 2 photos are not included, but are examples of the ads asking for these binoculars on loan for the war effort.
