10/25/23 – This is a rare variation 1941 dated P.38 holster made from pigskin leather. The leather has a pebble grain exterior pattern, but the interior lid shows small pock-marks which is indicative of pigskin leather. There are very few examples of P.38 pigskin holsters, as the Germans were trying different materials to save / help the supply chain for cow leather. This holster is in good overall condition but there are a few noteworthy flaws. First, the back leather has a crack in the upper right corner. This has been repaired with glue, as shown. Second, the closure strap has replacement stitching, and there’s some cracking on the leather of the closure strap. Third, the horizontal line of stitching below the belt loops on the back leather is missing a few stitches. This doesn’t affect fit or function, but is noteworthy. The rest of the stitching is original and in great shape. The leather has normal pliability and exterior scuffing. There’s a small hole on the corner of the mag pouch. The back leather is maker stamped, dated, and waffen proof stamped. A “battle worn” example of a very scarce holster.
