5/21/21 – This is a rare Portuguese contract Mauser K98 rifle that was fulfilled under Nazi Germany, hence the waffenamt on stock and receiver. There were only 10,000 such examples produced. This is believed to be one of the undelivered “H” block rifles that was diverted back to the German Army. These rifles are straight off the assembly line German Military issued K98k Rifles, they are waffenamted and made just like any other 1941 Mauser made 98k , the only difference being that the stock and receiver bear the State Crest of Portugal. Indeed, many of these rifles were not even sent to the Portuguese but straight to the Russian Front, as they were diverted back into the German Army who had just invaded the Soviet Union. This one is all matching and original, including the bands, bolt assembly, receiver, stock, barrel and trigger group. The stock has sharp waffenamt but also still has the faint remnant of the Portuguese crest. The bluing is original and in very good condition on the barrel and receiver, but most of the wear is on the bands and trigger group. Bore has strong rifling but some frost throughout. Stock has honest handling wear but no cracks or chips.
