8/17/22 – This is a rare Mauser Banner 98k from 1934 with “Ch.d.A” cartouche on stock. In the fall of 1934, Director Zillinger authorized sales to the head of the training system of the SA leadership – the Chef des Ausbildungswesens der obersten S.A. – Führung, or Ch.d.A. Ch.d.A. denotes the lead SA department in charge of equipping training detachments, and as such was involved in securing small arms for this purpose. This gun has the proper Ch.d.A. cartouche on the left side of the stock. Otherwise standard commercial gun with 1934 date and banner Mauser on receiver ring. The rifle is original and matching throughout aside from the rear band, which has been replaced. Matching numbers on the bolt, barrel, receiver, trigger group and rear sight assembly. The bluing on the metal parts is original but shows some thinning throughout, and is most pronounced on the trigger group. The stock shows two scratches/gouges on the left side but no cracks. The bore is shiny with strong rifling but there’s a patch of pitting in the grooves about 2/3 of the way through the barrel. Comes with a period original sling and a cleaning rod.
