8/26/21 – This is a rare and desirable 1914 Erfurt Luger with Death’s Head unit mark over the chamber, and it also includes a 1916 dated holster that has another Death’s Head marking. The gun was originally made in 1914 for German Army issue (WW1). The Death’s Head marking is thought to be like a unit mark that tank crews and/or the Freikorps Units were known to use. Also, in the K98 world, the similar Death’s Head marking is attributed to early SS units. There is no real consensus on the meaning of these markings, so we will just present this as a Rare Death’s Head marked Luger of unknown origin. The gun has original finish and all matching metal parts. The grips match each other but not the pistol. Magazine is period original but also mismatched. Finish rates at maybe 80% with high edge wear and areas of browning on the straps. Small parts still show some straw. Erfurt proofs throughout, including the grips and grip screws. Bore has good rifling but minor frost throughout. The holster has a fairly large and clear Death’s Head marking externally, and is maker marked on the back.
