2/1/24 – This is a factory-nickeled Smith & Wesson .38/44 Heavy Duty Revolver from 1936. According to the included factory letter, it was shipped from the factory to Shapleigh Hardware Co in St Louis, MO on December 10th, 1936. It had a nickel finish, 5 inch barrel, and checkered Walnut grips. The original finish rates about 97% with light flaking around the butt of the frame and a few tiny flakes on the right side of the frame. Micro-scratches in the finish here and there. The bore is mostly shiny with strong rifling, but the barrel is noticeably bulged. Grips fit well but right grip is mismatched.
