5/24/24 – This is an original WW2 German Police Long Dress Bayonet. These are rare and highly collectible bayonets typically manufactured prior to WW2, but later converted for Nazi Police use in 1936 when the SS took control of the German Police force. This example has a 33cm long blade that shows some light surface patina and mild oxidation / discoloration. Generally in great condition with no rust or pitting. A few light nicks and dings along the edge but no signs of sharpening. The base of the blade is maker stamped by Eickhorn, with a correct early style maker marking which corresponds to 1933-1935 production. The spine of the blade and spine of the handle are both stamped “A S 186”. The side of the metal scabbard mouth also has this stamp. The hand guard is stamped “S.S. 38”, which matches the marking on the scabbard as well. These matching markings indicate the scabbard as the original and matching to the blade. Typically, examples like this sell for around $800-900, however this example is missing the Nazi Police emblem on the front grip panel (stag handle grips). The price is reduced accordingly, and finding a replacement emblem could significantly increase this item’s value.
