2/29/24 – This is a great and original condition Model 1878 Swiss Vetterli rifle bayonet. This bayonet comes with an original scabbard and frog. The scabbard is made from leather and shows signs of normal use wear but has held up remarkably well considering its age. The frog Has tight, original, and complete stitching with what looks like maker stamps on the back; however, those stamps are not legible. The bayonet itself shows small patches of patina with no rust or pitting. The edge has not been sharpened. Ricasso is maker-stamped, and just below the crossguard is the serial number 222351. The crossguard and pommel have an honest wear patina with no significant issues. The handle is fitted with a pair of excellent grips that have no chips, dings, or cracks.
