12/30/22 – This is a nice example of a mismatched K98 bayonet issued to the German military during WW2. The blade is in great condition, retaining a majority of its blued finish. The edge of the blade does have some signs of light sharpening, which has led to some finish loss. The sides of the blade also show rub/ use wear that has result in some thinning/finish loss as well. There is minor oxidation here and there on the blade with a small patch of pitting on each face of the blade toward the tip. The blade is marked with a “cuf” maker mark, serial “8809f”, and 1940 date “40”. The handle and pommel of the bayonet are properly proof marked but show heavier oxidation throughout. The release button is functional. The metal sheath and leather frog are in nice condition. The metal has oxidation throughout and the leather has use wear throughout. The stitching appears original and is intact. The sheath is marked with serial “4005”. Overall the bayonet is in very good condition.
