3/22/22 – This is an early Austrian Steyr Pieper model 1908 pistol in all original configuration. The polished blue rates at about 98% with just a little wear and pinpricking on either side of the muzzle, and just a little more wear on the bottom of the back strap. The pistol is ’11 dated, and production only started in 1909 but continued through until 1929. These pistols are an unusual blowback type with tip-down barrel. The barrel is retained with a pivoting bolt and is held by a thumb latch barrel-locking mechanism. Manufacture started in 1909 and was suspended in 1911, then resumed in 1919 and wrapped up in 1929. The thumb latch still shows a pretty fire blue. Beautiful grips with no cracks or chips. Original magazine. Excellent, shiny bore.
