7/19/22 – This is an incredible WW2 Eickhorn Army dagger grouping in minty condition. The nicest example we’ve offered. The dagger comes with an original scabbard, hanger, portepee, monogramed pommel, and an original item tag from Thomas Wittmann dated 1989. The dagger blade is in excellent condition with an etched Eickhorn maker marking on one side. Excellent cross graining throughout and only a few very small spots of oxidation. The hand guard and pommel both show some of the original dark finish with some mild surface wear / edge wear throughout. We seldom find examples today with so much of the original finish still in tact! The handle has some mild discoloration from sun-bleaching on one side, but there are no cracks or chips. The portepee has a nice chord and tight knot. The scabbard still retains most of the original finish as shown, and there are no dents. The hanger is also in excellent condition. The pommel is monogramed “FF” as shown. This is likely the initials of the German Officer who was given this dagger. Only the wealthier families / more prominent Officers would have this feature added to their dagger. The Wittmann item tag shows that this grouping came from the Thomas Whitman collection, originally sold in 1989.
