2/9/21 – This is a very nice example of a Mauser P.38 rig issued to the Nazi military in 1944. The gun is all matching and has the proper “Waffen 135” military proofs. The rig comes with two period-correct magazines and a 1944-dated holster. The interesting thing about this particular rig is that there is an SS rune marking and a soldier’s name and rank. We’ve had it translated into Unterscharfuhrer. This is equivalent to Lance Sergeant or Senior Corporal. The SS runes lead us to believe that this particular soldier was in the SS. We have no paperwork or way to corroborate that fact. The gun has retained about 93% of its original bluing. There is thinning on the front strap, wear around the muzzle and high edges of the slide, and spotty wear on the barrel. Excellent grips. The bore has strong rifling but has minor pin-pricking throughout.
