10/10/23 – This is an excellent condition K98 bayonet with a matching numbered scabbard and leather frog. The bayonet blade is excellent with minimal finish loss and some mild brown speckling patina throughout. Serial numbered on one side, and maker stamped on the other side of the ricasso. The spine of the blade is “40” dated. The cross guard is stamped “33”, as is the knob on the front of the scabbard (we’re not sure the significance). The handle has no cracks or chips, and the pommel has mild patina throughout and thinning of the finish, but most of the original bluing is intact. The scabbard is excellent as well with minimal patina and no dents or major issues. The leather frog is maker stamped and 1939 dated on the backside, as shown. A very nice high-end example.
