8/22/24 – This is an original WW1 German M1916 Stahlhelm. Great condition with original liner band and liner intact, although one of the liner pads is broken off at the top leather seam (yet still original to the helmet, and attached by the cloth tie string). The interior of the detached liner pad shows an original manufacturer ink stamp and date. The shell is excellent, with original olive field-green painted finish around 75-80% intact. Natural patina and surface discoloration throughout the crown and shell exterior. The interior shell is marker and size marked “Si 66” for Eisenheutte Silesia, and a larger desirable size. Interior crown is lot numbered “B1 818”. A name “Offizier Stellif” (or ‘Steller’) is handwritten near the back visor with a handwritten date ending in “16” for 1916. The original rivets are flush and retain some of the original paint as well. Nice interior chin strap lugs, with one attached chinstrap “key” or metal retaining piece. Light, natural patina on the headband, but great overall condition with beige colored leather liner pads. Some natural surface wear but great to excellent overall condition given its’ age. A very nice, large and early WW1 example with over 100 years of history.
