10/26/23 – This is an excellent example of a DWM Model 1914 Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy in 1917. It is all matching (except for the blank bottom Navy magazine) and has the proper “Crown M” Imperial Navy proofs. The pistol retains about 98% of its finish, but the finish is a high-quality re-blue. The straw color finish on the small parts are about 60-70% condition. Fitted with excellent un-numbered wood grips and comes with a mismatched Navy-marked magazine. The grips fit well and appear to be original to the gun. The grips screws have a nice fire blue color to them. The bore has good rifling but there is some residue and small areas of corrosion, generally dark in color due to the re-blue. Should still shoot fine, and we rate 7/10 overall. The magazine is original navy marked and unnumbered – so therefore most likely an original arsenal replacement. No sign of a previous number being ground off. The bottom of the barrel has a GERMANY export marking, which was added post WW1. The German Navy had to destroy or export many lugers after the war was over. This one was issued in 1917 but them exported for sales in the US most likely in the early 1920’s.
Overall, it is an excellent example of a rare German Navy luger at a price that is much cheaper than one in all original condition.
