11/3/22 – This is an original WW1 production US M1913 Cavalry sword. These swords were designed by U.S. General Patton before he became a famous US General. After competing as a fencer in the 1912 Olympic Games, Patton’s skill led him to design a combat sword favoring thrusting attacks over standard slashing maneuvers. This sword is in good overall condition but doesn’t include a scabbard or sheath. The sword blade is US stamped with an eagle head proof underneath, and the reverse is maker stamped and 1918 dated. The blade shows dark patina throughout but none of this dark discoloration is deep or textured into the metal. The edges show no signs of sharpening nor any misuse blemishes. The hand guard and handle are in great condition with some spotty, mild discoloration.
