9/6/24 – This is an original, late WW2 production Luftwaffe Paratrooper (Fallschirmjager) badge. The medal is 2 piece construction made from die cast Zinc. This example is documented in the leading resource book on WW2 German Luftwaffe & Heer Army Paratrooper badges. This badge is described in the book as a “Type J”, and is shown on pages 96 and 97. The book mentions vertical and horizontal lines surrounding the catch. These are raised seams, and evidence the reverse die was comprised of several pieces. This badge is in great condition with a majority of the black/grey finish on the wreath still intact. The book calls this “brennlack” finish. The eagle has excellent detail and some mild patina / high edge wear. Well marked on the reverse of the eagle, and has a “1” marking on the wreath. Functional pin and catch. All original and authentic. The book is excellent condition as well!
