7/31/24 – This is a WW2 German Heer Army Officer’s Sword with a red ruby eyed lion’s head pommel. The sword features ornate gold gilded brass fittings that depict a full lion’s head and mane, with a oak leaf pattern engraving. The base of the crossguard shows a Nazi Heer Army style eagle holding a swastika. The underside is stamped “Ges. Gesch.”. An excellent amount of the gold gilded finish remains. Some natural high edge wear and age. Vibrant red ruby eyes. The black celluloid handle is clean with no cracks or chips. Tight, crisp silver wire wrapping that’s 2 pieces twisted bordered by 2 horizontal wires. The steel blade is maker stamped by Eickhorn on the backside, and measures 86.5cm (34 inches) to the tip from the leather stopper (which is also original and in excellent condition). The blade has micro-scratches due to scabbard rub and light handling. The tip is intact and the edge is unsharpened. Factory nickel plated finish is shiny with no lifting and only a trace amount of speckling oxidation near the base. Comes with an original scabbard that’s equally excellent and retains almost all of the black enameled paint. Beautiful finish throughout and also features an attached leather hanger.
