3/21/24 – This is an original, late WW2 production Luftwaffe Gravity Knife. The knife is a takedown model, which is a later war variation, highly desired by collectors. The blade on this example is stamped with a “RBNR.” which is a distributor code used by Germany at the end of the war. The blade is original and shows signs of use and light sharpening along the edge. The knife is fully functional with a working release lever, although the blade sometimes can catch or need light jostling to retract back into the handle. The release lever and side plate are matching numbered to each other (#98), but these both are mis-matching to the handle and mouth pieces (which are also matching to each other, #42). The original handle is in great condition with no cracks or chips. The fold-out spike piece is stamped with a Luftwaffe proof on the base, as shown. The finish is worn throughout the metal parts, and there are small areas of pin-pricking throughout. However this doesn’t offset the collectability of this late-war gravity knife.
