7/22/20 – This is a scarce and desirable Type 97 Sniper rifle that is a 1st series run at Nagoya Arsenal. The original finish shows some thinning/browning in several areas, but more notably has some surface corrosion on a few of the major metal parts. Ground mum on receiver. Matching numbers are present on the bayonet lug and the bolt handle, which has been fitted with a later, “last ditch” style safety knob. Smooth pistol grip stock with a leather sling and a cupped metal buttplate. Equipped with a 2.5×10 scope which is numbered “13730” on the left and “14431” on top with a 1st Series mark on the exterior, and an original rubberized canvas scope case with leather fittings. Safety knob and firing pin are mixed number replacements. Bore is shiny with strong rifling, just has some basic frost throughout. Scope optics are clear.
