10/31/22 – This is a nice example of a Japanese Naval Officer’s Dirk from WW2. The dirk’s blade appears to be unfinished as it does not have an edge, and does not have a fuller (blood groove). We’re not sure why this is, but perhaps this was late-war production or a leftover factory example. There are no markings on the tang and some minor oxidation here and there. The cross guard, hilt, and pommel are in great overall condition. The original wire wrap and ray skin are intact with minor discoloration and use wear throughout. There is oxidation throughout the pommel and handguard. The dirk measures approximately 12 7/8″ from blade tip to pommel. The dirk includes an original scabbard which is in good overall condition. There is minor patina throughout the metal fittings but no major structural defects.
