1/20/23 – This is an original Italian MVSN (Milizia Voluntaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale) dagger. Also known as a “blackshirts” officer dagger. These were used by the Italian Voluntary Militia as both a dress and combat knife. This example has a lightweight aluminum hilt / handle that is inscribed on the spine “To the Sgt. Louis J Moore, Merry Christmas”. The interior edge of the handle is inscribed, “Dan , Rome 1944”. So likely a US captured item that was later gifted to a commanding officer. The dagger blade is shiny with a polished look and unsharpened edge. No major issues or notable flaws on the dagger or handle. The scabbard has surface patina and machine wear throughout, as if someone ground down the exterior. The scabbard is still completely intact with no major dents and is functional. Comes with a cloth frog as shown.
