12/16/21 – This is a very interesting P.38. For the P.38 collector, it has a little bit of everything. It was put together by the French immediately following WW2 using leftover Nazi parts – all matching numbers. It has a rare FN-made slide, dated 1943. There are “Waffen 135” Nazi military acceptance proofs on the barrel and right side of the slide. Also on the right side of the slide is a factory double-stamped French star proof and an asterisk marking. The asterisk indicates it failed initial inspection and was sent back for repair. There is a very faint import mark on the right side of the slide. The gun comes with one period-correct magazine and desirable “Gray Ghost” French grips. The gun has retained about 90% of its finish. There is scratchy wear on the front strap, thinning on the right side of the frame, and some minor wear on the high edges. While there isn’t a lot of actual finish loss, there is splotchy discoloration throughout, most noticeable on the left side and top of the slide. The bore is near-mint. De-cocker is functional.
