7/10/23 – This is an original WW2 production Type 98 Japanese Army Officer Sword. This sword is stamped with an Amahide factory stamp at the base of the tang. The sword blade is considered showa period made with “modern steel” and oil quenched. The sword blade features beautiful graining throughout that is telltale of handmade production. Amahide is known for quality, and this example is no exception. The graining is very distinct on this example. The blade is very clean throughout with no signs of tampering and a nice tempered edge. The typical Army fittings are all matching numbered and in great overall condition with some light surface wear and typical aging patina. Comes with a standard T98 scabbard as well, although there’s an attached cloth tag with Japanese writing. We’ve been told this is either a capture tag of some kind or a prayer / memorial tag of some kind. The signature on the blade hilt is “No Shu Seki Ju Ichi Monji”.
