7/8/22 – This is an original T98 Japanese Army Officer Sword. This sword blade is “traditionally made” or hand made in the traditional style. This is evident through the steel graining or “hada”. The blade is very clean throughout except for some small dings along the edge and a very small 1-2mm chip off the tip. The tempered edge is still clearly visible and the blade has almost no spots of dark discoloration or patina. The tang has a machined signature, which means this blade was handmade in a factory during the war. Only a few factories were given the proper steel and swordsmiths to make blades in this “traditional” Japanese style. the blade comes with standard fittings and a detailed hand guard or “Tsuba”. There is some minor wiggle in the hand guard and washers, plus some cracking and wear on the handle, but this is normal.
