10/5/23 – This is an original 1916 production Gewehr 98 Sawback Butcher bayonet. These are fairly scarce and desirable as they became outlawed in the Treaty of Versailles after WW1. This example is in great overall condition with some honest wear throughout. The blade has speckling patina and mild pin-pricking but no signs of sharpening along the edge, and no rust or pitting. The spine of the blade is proof stamped and dated. The base of the blade is maker stamped as shown. Nice wood grips and normal patina on the quillon and pommel. The scabbard is original but shows dark patina throughout and has a few minor dents.
