6/13/23 – These were shotgun conversations arriving from the mass amount of surplus Gewehr 98s that Germany had following World War 1. Thanks to the Treaty of Versailles they weren’t able to sell military firearms but could produce “sporting” arms in various calibers and sizes. These were standard Gewehr 98 rifles that were converted to use 12-Gauge ammunition out of the same internal box magazine. They held only two rounds and were considered utilitarian even for their time but make a very cool Mauser collector’s piece. This one is all matching and has retained roughly 85% of its original finish with general high edge wear and spotty wear on the receiver and floor plate. There is brown patina on the floor plate / trigger group and splotchy discoloration here and there along the barrel. Very nice wood stock with minor bruising throughout. Very nice bore.
