2/28/22 – This is an excellent example of a Springfield Krag Model 1896 issued to the US military in 1897, making this one an antique. The gun is fully functional, is very faintly dated 1897 on the left side of the stock, has the proper military inspection stamp, and has a “P” proof on the wrist. It comes with a period-correct 1900-dated bayonet, original scabbard, and wire cartridge belt loop. Overall, the gun is in excellent condition. There is very little actual finish loss, and the top plate of the bolt still has its original fire-bluing. There are areas of somewhat scratchy wear on the very front portion of the barrel and trigger guard. Some tiny scratches and handling marks around the muzzle and front barrel band. There is some minor pin-pricking on the magazine and some minor splotchy discoloration on the left side plate. The stock is excellent with minor dings and scratches here and there – may have been very lightly sanded in a few areas. The bore is mint.
