10/2/17 – This is an excellent and original Mauser K98 from 1944, made at the Gustloff Werke arsenal, as indicated by the ‘bcd’ proof on the receiver. This rifle is interesting in that it is technically mismatched, but I believe as a result of a factory error. The receiver serial is ‘19005’, but all the small parts are ‘9050’ or ’50’. This seems too coincidental to think it’s the result of anything other than a factory mistake where the digits were transposed. This rifle also features a phosphated receiver with some phosphated small parts, and was likely put together in ’45 with whatever parts were available in the factory. This is supported by the mix of blued parts that can be seen on the rifle, and the fact that the wood and bore are near-mint makes one think this rifle did not see use. The strap is WW2 original and in decent condition, though does show some flaking/cracking.
