3/27/18 – This is an Arisaka Type 44 Cavalry Carbine, in terrific original condition. The rifle is all matching with minty blue finish to the metal parts, and features folding style bayonet. The mum is fully intact, which is hard to find. All number parts on the rifle are matching, and the bore is strong and shiny but does need a proper cleaning. The stock has various dings and nicks but is in fantastic shape for a Japanese rifle from this era. The Type 44 was developed from the Type 38 carbine to provide a cavalryman a carbine with a bayonet and not be encumbered with weapons. It entered production in 1911 and entered service in 1912 (the 44th year of the Meiji period, hence “Type 44”), and served on until the end of the Second World War in 1945. Approximately 91,900 Type 44 rifles were produced by Japanese arsenals during these years, and this is one of the nicest you’ll ever find.
