6/1/23 – This is an excellent example of a Mauser Luger from 1940 with an “N 4868” Navy marking on the back strap. Presumably, this is a Navy-issued gun. However, we’re unsure about the originality of the marking. These were all hand-engraved and the styles can vary slightly, so we can’t say for sure if this one is original. Examine the photos carefully. This example also comes with an original matching-numbered magazine with the matching Navy property marking. We have no issues with the serial numbering, but the Navy property marking on the magazine is questionable, similar to the marking on the back strap. In any case, the gun has retained about 97% of its original finish with very minor muzzle wear, hints of wear on the high edges, and a hint of thinning on the grip straps. Fitted with minty, un-numbered, “Eagle 655” proofed wood grips. The bore is shiny for the most part with strong rifling, but there is some minor freckling throughout.
