4/20/22 – This is an original WW1 Imperial German Pickelhaube helmet. The helmet comes with a nice plexiglass and wood display case. This helmet is scarce because it’s made from ersatz felt material, which was used due to a shortage of cow hide beginning in 1914. The helmet also features earlier style brass fittings and a brass Prussian eagle helmet plate. The eagle has surface patina and edge war throughout but no excessive wear. The original leather chinstrap is still completely intact despite some surface cracking and signs of aging throughout the leather. The crown of the helmet has a brass vented enlisted soldier’s spike. The spike is fixed and doesn’t rotate. The cockades still show the Prussian (black and white) and German (red white and black) national colors. The interior leather liner is still present but has some cracking and tears in the leather. The stitching is missing from the back of the liner as well, so it’s only partially attached. This is still a rare and desirable variation WW1 Pickelhaube in great overall condition.
