01/08/2024 – Up for listing is a Gewehr 1888 made by the Erfurt Arsenal before WW1. The Gew88 was a response to France’s Lebel 1886 utilizing the brand-new smokeless powder. The rifle has not been updated to 88/05 or 88/14 specs as still uses Mannlicher style en block clips. The bolt and receiver are in the white with some speckling of pitting here and there. The barrel has a dark finish and the bore is bright with slight frosting. The rifle is matching on the bolt, barrel, receiver, trigger guard, safety flag, and striker. The rear sight assembly and barrel bands do not match.
