3/22/23 – This is a nice example of an early Springfield Model 1903 issued to the US military. The receiver dates to 1903. The barrel is also Springfield marked and dated September of 1906. The stock has a faint military acceptance cartouche but also has an “SAA-1” marking, indicating it was reworked at the San Antonio Arsenal. The bolt is “R” marked. Comes with a “US” marked front sight hood. There is finish loss on the barrel and on the floor plate / trigger group. Noticeable splotchy discoloration along the barrel as well. Spotty oxidation and pin-pricking on the front barrel band. No major damage to the wood stock, but there are noticeable bruises, dings, and scratches throughout. The bore has decent rifling, but there is spots of heavy oxidation throughout.
