4/24/23 – This is an early variation Luftwaffe Officer’s Sword from early / pre WW2. The sword features a nickel plated steel blade with an early variation maker stamp by David Malsch. This is a fairly scarce maker as well, with a Luftwaffe eagle/5 proof stamp just above the maker marking on one side of the blade. The blade is in great condition with some light surface scratches on either side, and a very few small areas of speckling near the tip of the blade. The edges are unsharpened and mostly excellent, although there are one or two small dings along the edge. Original blue leather stopper is present and intact. The hand guard has dark surface patina and aging throughout, as does the pommel. The handle has some tattering from handling and use, but is still in good condition with a tightly wound chord wrapping. Comes with an original scabbard that’s in great condition but does have some natural aging wear and surface patina throughout, as shown in photos. The original belt hanger is still attached and unmarked. There are a few small scuffs and areas of missing stretched-blue leather on the scabbard, but this is mild.
