4/11/23 – This is a nice example of an early 4-digit serial number Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 rifle issued to the US military in 1906. The barrel is “RIA” marked and dated April of 1906. It has the proper early characteristics, such as the flat-top handguard and single reinforced stock lug. It has retained roughly half of its original finish with obvious bluing loss throughout. Areas of spotty oxidation on most of the metal parts, heaviest on the butt plate and floor plate / trigger group. Very nice wood furniture with no major damage, just some minor bruises and scratches here and there. The bore has good rifling, but there is spotty surface oxidation throughout.
