4/19/22 – This is a scarce Colt M1902 Military pistol that was made in 1902, the first year of production! Following the lackluster sales of the Colt Model 1900, Colt made some changes to appeal to the military requests in creating the Model 1902 Military. The pistol was given a larger frame so that it could hold an extra cartridge and provided a larger area for gripping. But the pistol was also given a slide-stop so that it could enable quicker reloading, and a lanyard ring was installed on the left side of the frame. The early models featured a rounded hammer, such as this one, and a checkered portion of the slide. A total of about 18,000 Military Model 1902’s were produced. This one has excellent Colt hard rubber grips, with just a small chip in the right panel. It has bluing loss along the high edges of the slide on both sides, and some oxidation on both straps. Minor pitting is visible on the right side of the frame, around the grip panel. Strong, shiny bore.
