5/12/21 – Here’s a pretty nice old antique Colt Model 1877 “Lightning” revolver. Comes with a Colt archive letter stating it shipped to a hardware company in St. Louis in 1896. The Model 1877 was Colt’s first attempt at a double action revolver and is chambered for the .38 Long Colt cartridge. It has an outward appearance similar to that of the famous Single Action Army with a solid frame and loading gate. This revolver wears a 4-1/2″ barrel with ejector rod. The serial number is matching on frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder and both hard rubber grips. Overall condition is decent and there is quite a bit of the case hardening remaining. Obvious finish loss on cylinder, grip frame and side of barrel, with some pitting along the top of frame. The original hard rubber grips are in good shape with minor smoothing. This revolver functions well in double action, but hammer occasionally doesn’t stay all the way back in single action. Timing is good and lock-up is excellent with the trigger held to the rear. The bore is excellent. Antique so no license required. Also includes 20 rounds of vintage .38 Long Colt ammunition.
