12/22/22 – This is a nice example of a Sharps Model 1859 Saddle Ring Carbine. There were approximately 45,000 of this model made during the 1860-1863 period. This features a later version of the Sharps action with an improved gas seal and vertical breech. Converted to .50-70 Govt. The barrel is blued but has lost most of its finish. The receiver has no finish and appears to have been buffed. Some minor pitting on the receiver as well. Noticeable pitting on the butt plate. The lock plate still has most of its really nice case-hardening. Fire bluing on a few of the small parts. The stock has no visible cartouches. There is a crack at the very front of the handguard and some tiny dings and gouges here and there. A white paint mark on the underside of the butt stock. The majority of the bore is shiny with strong rifling. However, there is noticeable spotty oxidation in the front half of the bore. Fully functional.
