7/17/23 – This is an excellent condition WW2 Luftwaffe Pilot Observer badge with an original case. The badge is 2 piece construction with a silver eagle and gold wreath. The award is completely non-magnetic tombac and weighs 52 grams. The eagle wingspan is 64mm and the length of the wreath from top-to-bottom is 53mm. The wreath is in minty condition with shiny high edges and sides, while the flatter, sunken areas of the oak leaves are matte gold washed. The eagle more visible surface patina and dark discoloration on the wings and eagle body. This is mostly on the high edges of the eagle beak, breast, and wing outline. There is a considerable amount of the original finish still intact throughout. Excellent detail as well. The swastika is shiny with dark edge wear as shown. The reverse has excellent matte finish throughout, and a crisply struck GWL maker marking. The hinge is original and functional with no issues. Comes with an original case that shows light surface wear and aging throughout. A very rare award in extremely well-preserved condition. Worn by Luftwaffe Pilots who qualified for both the Pilot’s badge and the Observer Badge.
