10/21/21 – This is a very nice and interesting example of a Canadian Inglis Hi Power that was manufactured in 1944. The British proofs on the right side of the gun indicate it was likely delivered to the British military. It is in the “10T” serial number range. This serial range is a curiosity. There is a span of about 500 guns where the factory accidentally duplicated “0T” serial numbers. To remedy this, they added a panographed “1” in front of the serials. The “1” usually looks a little different from the rest of the numbers. It is a little difficult to tell on this particular gun because the markings have been filled in with wax pencil. There are also “D FTR 62” markings on the left side of both the slide and frame. This indicates that the gun was reworked (FTR = Factory Thorough Repair) at RSAF Enfield in 1962. It was then that the barrel was likely replaced and numbered to match the rest of the gun. At the same time, it was probably given the additional British proof at the back left of the slide (typically seen with FTR guns). The number “17” is painted in yellow on the top of the slide and underside of the frame. After the British military considered these obsolete, many of them were stored and ended up in the US. So the yellow numbers are likely rack or storage numbers. The gun is all matching and has retained about 93% of its black painted finish. No import mark. There are small chips in the paint throughout, concentrated on the high edges, around the muzzle, and on the front strap. Comes with nice black bakelite grips and a proper “JI”-marked magazine. The bore is near-mint. No lanyard ring.
