3/21/23 – This is a nice example of a Lanchester Mk 1* submachine gun issued to the British military during WW2. This particular gun has a solid cast dummy receiver. It is a non-working, non-firing gun. The magazine does come in and out, the trigger moves, the rear sight moves, and the takedown lever is operable. Those are the only moving parts. The Lanchester is a submachine gun (SMG) manufactured by the Sterling Armaments Company between 1941 and 1945. It is a copy of the German MP28/II and was manufactured in two versions, Mk.1 and Mk.1*; the latter was a simplified version of the original Mk.1, with no fire selector and simplified sights. It was primarily used by the British Royal Navy during the Second World War, and to a lesser extent by the Royal Air Force Regiment (for airfield protection). It was given the general designation of Lanchester after George Herbert Lanchester, who was charged with producing the weapon at the Sterling Armaments Company. On this one, there is some light chipping in the black painted finish and some light spotty oxidation on the heat shield. There is no major damage to the wood stock, but there is obvious bruising throughout and what look like farci rack numbers painted on the butt stock.
