10/10/22 – This is a very nice example of a British Coldstream Guards bearskin helmet. Overall the cap is in very good condition. The bearskin fur is mostly intact and consistent in color. The interior bamboo wicket is in great condition with no signs of structural damage. The black leather liner is in good condition with no major defects. The leather of the chinstrap does unfortunately have some broken stitches as shown and the brass ring scales have patina throughout. The leather pieces securing the chinstrap to the interior are cracked and do show wear and age. There is a label stitched within the interior, but the ink has mostly faded. The cap includes a wooden display stand that is topped with a leather base for the inside of the cap. Overall, an interesting display piece in nice condition. Note that this helmet should be handled with care as the fur exterior is prone to shedding!
