6/27/23 – This is a near mint example of a scarce “French Gendarme” rig, made immediately after WWI. It retains over 98% of its original blue with just the slightest high edge wear present. It is all matching, including a near new condition shoulder stock without cracks or other defects. Generous amount of fireblue is present on the small parts. Excellent bore and grips. This particular variation was made with a standard frame and a “bolo” top and fewer than a thousand were probably made based on the serial numbers reported. These guns also came with black hard rubber grips, unlike the standard guns that had wood grips. At one time it was thought that this was a post WWI contract for French police forces, that gave this variation a number nickname of “French Gendarme”. Most had “Germany” export marking on the left frame panel, but very few were made without and are even more desirable. This gun lacks the “Germany” export marking. A great example of a scarce variation, that would be almost impossible to upgrade.
