7/24/23 – This is a Saginaw Gear S’G’ M1 Carbine from early 1944. M1 Carbine production was done at the Grand Rapids plant of Saginaw Gear. This particular rifle was rebuilt by Anniston Arsenal as evidenced by the “AN” stamp on the left side of the stock. The barrel is stamped near the muzzle with “Saginaw Gear SG / General Motors”. The rear of the breech is also stamped with Saginaw Gear SG” however, is is somewhat obscured by the replacement rear sight. The internal of the stock is SA marked, indicating it went back to an arsenal at some point. The trigger assembly is stamped “Rock-Ola” The top foreguard is stamped “W”. Although it has many replacement parts, this is still a very nice carbine that functions smoothly. Includes a sling and oiler. Bore rates a solid 8 of 10.
