8/3/21 – This is an interesting Arisaka Type 44 Cavalry Carbine grouping with flag, photo ID card, enlistment training photo, 2nd Marine Division patch, two campaign medals and enlistment notification. Our consignor states he got this grouping from a family member of Irving E. Nelson, the soldier named and shown in the grouping, but the paperwork does not specifically tie to the rifle by serial. The rifle has patina throughout and a ground mum, and a mismatched bolt. Folding style bayonet with a nice stock aside from some notable chips out of the handguard. Bore has some rifling but deeply frosted throughout. Irving Nelson was 2nd Marine Division, 8th Regiment, K Company, and the flag lists all the islands on which he served.
