1/19/22 – This is a very nice example of a Japanese Type 38 rifle. The gun is all matching (except for the firing pin, which is un-numbered) and has a mostly-intact mum stamp on the receiver. There are two circles defacing the mum, an added Japanese character between the mum and model designation, and two zeros “00” in front of the serial number. All of these characteristics indicate this example is a “school gun”. These rifles were retired from military service and re-issued for use in training police forces, paramilitary groups, and their equivalent to high school ROTC organizations. Overall, the gun is in very nice condition. There are areas of noticeable wear on the barrel bands, floor plate, and trigger guard. There is spotty oxidation and discoloration on most of the metal parts – not so apparent on the receiver. One small spot of surface rust on the butt plate. The stock is in decent condition with noticeable dings, dents, and scratches throughout. The rifling in the bore is nice with very minor pin-pricking in the grooves. Comes with an original cleaning rod.
