4/25/23 – This is an original WW1 US 80th Infantry Division wool jacket. The jacket is British made, meaning the soldier was likely stationed in Europe and had this jacket made while overseas. Ironically, the American Eagle embossed buttons are maker marked, “Horstman – Philadelphia” so the buttons were made in the United States. The jacket is British proofed with letters, “WMD” and numbers “85” on the interior. The jacket pockets are sewn-on brown linen, which is characteristic of British design / production as well. There are some cedar wood chips still inside the pockets to help preserve the condition and keep moths away. This has worked thus far, as the jacket remains in excellent condition as shown. The left sleeve shows sewn-on decals including two chevrons – each representing 6 months of service. All original and authentic.
